Welcome ~ Kia OraStone Grooves was formed by Ruth to create well finished, original sculptures from New Zealand stone. Ruth is a stone sculptor and a painter, the two art forms feeding off each other in her unique style. She has been amazed by the possibilities of carving Oamaru stone, which is her main choice of material.
"Oamaru limestone is a beautiful stone to work with and given time and patience; wonderful forms emerge".
Four years ago Ruth left her life in the UK and discovered a passion for working with stone. She is able to create work that has character and a sense of movement. A dominant component in all her work are curves and circles which she is compelled to create, each linking and moving onto the next. Her paintings are an emotional response to her new enviroment and have evolved since carving stone. Her work has been sold throughout New Zealand, and also internationally with people returning for additional pieces to add to their collections. Ruth works from her home studio in a beautiful setting, on the lower slopes of the Port Hills in Christchurch…....about 10 minutes drive from the city centre. You are very welcome to come and view her work at the studio, or alternatively you can meet Ruth and see some of her work on Sundays at the Weekend Market at the Christchurch Arts Centre between 10am and 4pm, during the summer months.
